Nintendo hosted a new Direct this month and they didn’t hold back. Within what was 40-minute presentation, there were 50+ titles covered with something for just about everyone. Heck, if you happen to be a farming sim fan, this was a dream presentation with 5 farming related games announced.
While I won’t cover in detail every announcement, I do want to highlight some of the announcements that caught my attention the most. First and foremost, we got a title for the Breath of the Wild sequel and a release date! Official title is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and it is slated to release May 13, 2023. Definitely looks like there will be links to Skyward Sword. Even got to see what looks like this timeline’s version of a Loftwing, so to speak. Still a lot of unknowns, but we now have a release date and full title.
The other big highlights for me are Fire Emblem Engage, Octopath Traveller II, Pikmin 4, Tales of Symphonia Remastered, and Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe. I’m a bit JRPG and Tactical RPG fan, so no big surprise about three of those. I’m always game for a new entry in Fire Emblem and I’m liking this hero fusion mechanic with past Fire Emblem heroes. I still need to finish Octopath Traveller, but I love this style. Tales of Symphonia Remastered has me excited as this was my first Tales game and I loved the story of this game so much. Pikmin 4 I knew was supposed to be in development, but this reconfirmation with a year has me super excited. I’ve always found the Pikmin games to be relaxing and fun to explore. Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe I’m excited for as I missed this game when it was released on the Wii. This is just comfort food for me at this point as I’ve been playing Kirby games since Kirby’s Dream Land on the GameBoy.
So many games showcased, it’s hard to really cover them all, but I do have a few others that did catch my attention but will likely be on my watch list for now. The FINAL FRONT remakes definitely caught my attention as I never played these games but remember seeing them when looking for new games way back when. Just never took the dive. I’m also a huge original Harvest Moon fan and really liked A Wonderful Life on the GameCube. Seeing the Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is just brought back fond memories with some new twists. Might not be able to help get this one. Then there is Harvestella and Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion. Love to see Square Enix’s twist to farming sim and I loved Crisis Core on the PSP. Looking forward to seeing this remake.
Definitely an embarrassment of riches for Switch fans. While I know there were some “confirmed rumors” going around that didn’t come true, I think this was a solid showcase. There is still time for some of those rumors to come true, so don’t completely give up. You never know what Nintendo will showcase in future Directs.
