I will be completely honest, the only two games I was actually looking forward to were Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and the announcement of Far Cry 6, so here are some of my quick takes on Ubisoft’s Forward event.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla looks as brutal as I was hoping it would be, plus some. Combat reminds me of Odyssey, just taken to the nth degree to fit how one would expect a viking to fight. Between dual wield any combination of weapons, getting throwing axes that you can repeatedly throw at enemies, and getting to tackle an enemy through a building, it just looks fun. To top of the insanity, you can even dual wield shields and still be deadly. Shields! Outside of the combat, I’m just excited about the time frame and setting. Getting to see more of it is making me want to play it more. Took a bit of a hiatus from the Assassin’s Creed series and Odyssey and now Valhalla are really hitting those right notes for me.
While we didn’t get to see any game play of Far Cry 6, that announcement trailer alone with Giancarlo Esposito as El Presidente, I’m in. He is an amazing actor and he eats up the screen as the bad guy. Just immediately elevates my interest in the game at this moment. Very much looking forward to more information coming out on this, especially gameplay.
In all, I think Ubisoft had a good event from my perspective. I got what I wanted for the games I was most interested in, and got to see more of some games I haven’t put much thought in like Watch Dogs Legion, which just looks insane. I just never got around to playing the first two Watch Dog games so I don’t have much invested in the series. Legions may change that based on what I saw. I’m thinking if you are a Watch Dogs fan, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
If you happened to miss the event and had been wanting to watch it, here is their video of the stream starting the beginning of the announcements. I’ll also include shortcut links to the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Far Cry content under the video if you want to just skip to those. Watch Dogs Legion was their kickoff game, so the below video basically starts off with that.
